These canvases will be transposed onto banners and will be installed on the historic Prince William Street Lamp Standards this summer.

Our very first traffic box artistic installation was done by local artist, Fabiola Martinez in 2022. Due to infrastructure changes on Charlotte Street over the past year, that box was uninstalled. A new box was erected across the street, in King’s Square, and we thought it fitting to have Fabiola’s work featured here, to compensate for the loss of her beautiful initial piece.
Fabiola is very generous in sharing the creative process, and has had multiple artists help her along the way, including visual artist: Sheryl Crowley, Elijah Arbeau‑Martinez, Sébastien Hogeterp, Dee Stubbs, and Maggy Jreige. It is so heartwarming to see our artists coming together and bringing the piece a multi-level of energies.
The title of this piece is “Where Flowers Dance and Butterflies Listen”
This painting, inspired by a traditional Conchero dancer from my hometown of Querétaro, is set among marigolds (cempasúchil) and monarch butterflies—symbols of life, death, and migration that reflect both Día de los Muertos and my own immigrant journey. Created from a 2024 reference photo during a my visit to Mexico, it celebrates cultural memory that shape our identities.
