Uptown Saint John is excited to welcome Umami Kid, a new restaurant on Germain, which has joined our vibrant food scene and is a member of the Uptown Saint John BIA.

Owners Eunice Gale and Sanat Gabdyssamet, who also operate the popular Bubbly Cup, opened Umami Kid this September, aiming to bring the taste of Japan here to Saint John. Their team prepares their ramen broth in-house daily, carefully simmering it to create a naturally rich, emulsified flavour. Many of their ingredients are imported directly from Japan to maintain authenticity.

On the menu, you’ll find a variety of ramen and donburi dishes, along with tasty small plates like gyoza, takoyaki, and crispy karaage chicken. Families will love the kids’ bento options, while drinks range from refreshing ramune soda and genmaicha tea to sake and soju. They offer a nice selection of desserts, including mochi ice cream and matcha cheesecake.

The interior is just as unforgettable: hand-built décor, a ceiling display featuring 3,000 flowers, and walls wrapped in custom-printed manga and anime wallpaper. Every detail has been lovingly crafted to make the space feel warm, fun, and uniquely their own.
