Welcome New Business: /ka•ku•tə•ru/

Wander down Grannan Street and turn into the alley to find Eric Scouten’s cocktail lounge; /ka•ku•tə•ru/. It is one of our newest Uptown Saint John BIA members and officially opened up over the past weekend.

The inside is striking, with black walls surrounding the custom-constructed bar highlighted front and center. This one-of-a-kind bar was built from the St. John the Baptist Church’s organ, ten pews, and some additional wood. Seating for 12 ensures that Eric tailors a curated experience for each individual. The space is designed for date nights and very small groups (up to a party of three). If no space is available, there is a call-back list. On Wednesday evenings, he hosts private tastings for large groups of 6 to 10 people (reservations are required as the lounge is closed to the public on Wednesdays).

Eric takes pride in his cocktail ingredients and features house-made simple syrups, fruit compotes, fruit leathers, and foraged ingredients. The bar is fully stocked with everything he needs to offer high-end cocktail service, including five non-alcoholic spirits for mixing cocktails without liquor. Small snacks are available for purchase; cheese plate, olives, pickles, and beef jerky. In partnership with Handworks Gallery, some paintings are displayed along the walls. The lounge’s atmosphere offers the perfect place to relax and enjoy a decadent cocktail and delightful conversion.
