VARIATIONS : An exhibition by Nat Cann

Variations is a collection of Nat Cann’s aggressively colourful paintings both representional and abstracted. Each piece in some way speaks to the visual limitations of information, maximalist abstraction, escapism through digital environments, and the concerns of these fictitious worlds admit the dithering of our own habitation. Yet atop all these swirling notions rests the act of painting as a means of play, and perhaps meditation too.
BIOGRAPHY
Nat Cann (he/him) has exhibited across Canada, and has gratefully acted as a mentor,
instructor, and technical assistant to numerous students and professionals unversed in
printmaking. Nat has been granted numerous residencies and his recent print projects have
been intertwined with a variety of publications, exhibitions, and research grants. His work has
been consistently supported by ArtsNB’s funding programs and the Canada Council for the Arts.
Nat obtained his BFA from Mount Allison University (2012) and now resides in Moncton, New
Brunswick, an Acadian colonial city which sits on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik
(Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq People
