SUMMARY:'Dry' January Movie Series: Dune (1984) LASERDISC SCREENING AND COSTUME CONTEST!
DESCRIPTION:Warm up this January with Haven Music Hall’s January movie series featuring a curated list of dry\, desert-y\, dusty movies!! Free entry\, discounts on domestic cans of beer and our cafe menu\, and $2 popcorn! This is a VERY special screening of Dune because we will be showing it on laserdisc! Dress in your Arrakis best for the chance to win prizes! \n-Thursday Jan 30: Dune (1984) on LASERDISC!!-\nIn the year 10191\, a spice called melange is the most valuable substance known in the universe\, and its only source is the desert planet Arrakis. A royal decree awards Arrakis to Duke Leto Atreides and ousts his bitter enemies\, the Harkonnens. However\, when the Harkonnens violently seize back their fiefdom\, it is up to Paul (Kyle MacLachlan)\, Leto’s son\, to lead the Fremen\, the natives of Arrakis\, in a battle for control of the planet and its spice. Based on Frank Herbert’s epic novel. \n-What the heck is laserdisc actually?!-\nThe LaserDisc is a home video format and the first commercial optical disc storage medium\, initially licensed\, sold and marketed as DISCOVISION! The format was capable of offering higher-quality video and audio than its consumer rivals (VHS and Betamax videotape) but LaserDisc never managed to gain widespread use in North America. This Dune laserdisc is being lent to us for the evening from a private collection! \nBecause of this film’s longer run-time and the fact that you need to physically flip the laserdiscs\, this screening will include two short intermissions where you can refill your drink and nerd out about niche video formats! \nDoors 7:30pm/showtime 8pm\nJan 16: Tremors (1990)\nJan 23: The Mummy (1999)\nJan 30: Dune* (1984) \n*Dune (1984) will be a special screening on laserdisc! This screening will include two intermissions. \n—— \nSafer Spaces Policy/Code of Conduct\nHaven Music Hall (HMH) is committed to ensuring a safer show experience for musicians\, audiences\, staff\, and volunteers. If you see or experience any form of harassment or abuse please inform the bar staff on site. If you experience harassment or abuse and wish to inform us after the fact please email abigail@havenmusichall.com. Reports will be confidential. Incidents that are reported in real time are written up by the handling staff member and are confidential and kept on file. In-person or online abuse and harassment of an audience member\, musician\, HMH staff\, security\, or volunteers will result in immediate ejection from the premises\, potential probationary period\, and potential banning from the premises. As event coordinators we prioritize the experiences of the musicians\, staff\, and audience members\, so patrons who are being disruptive to the performance or bothering staff will be asked to stop their disruptive actions\, and/or be asked to leave the premises. \nAccessibility\nHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. This event is combination standing and seating room only. Our entrance exterior is a 34″ wide door that has a small lip/step up from the street. Once inside\, our entrance vestibule has three steps up into the space with an interior entrance opening of 70″. We have two single-use washrooms with toilets. SUMMARY:Snotty Nose Rez Kids
DESCRIPTION:Snotty Nose Rez Kids tore into the music scene with unmistakeable talent and an unforgettable name. Showing off their lyrical prowess and natural storytelling ability\, Yung Trybez and Young D jumpstarted the band with two back-to-back albums in 2017. Their follow up album\, 2019’s TRAPLINE\, really launched their career with hit “Boujee Natives\,” and multiple awards including their first Juno nomination. The band took their high voltage live show on the road and clocked 100 shows in 6 different countries. Their pandemic album\, LIFE AFTER\, saw greater industry recognition with multiple music magazine cover stories\, and strong streaming platform support including Billboard advertisements in Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square\, playlist cover images\, and an Amazon Twitch Channel Takeover. \nTaking the album on the road\, the band toured 80 shows in support of the album across North America. They received their second Juno nomination and performed during the live broadcast. They were invited by The Toronto Raptors to play a half time show\, and to the Vancouver Canucks to play in-between periods. Their 2022 project\, I’M GOOD\, HBU? elevated their career to new heights\, and saw them receive their fourth Polaris Prize Shortlist\, a win for top music video of the year at the Prism Prize Awards for their Beatles-inspired\, DAMN RIGHT\, and landed them 3 Western Canadian Music Awards\, bringing their tally to 13 wins so far. SNRK have gone on to dominate in Hip-Hop music\, most recently achieving their biggest milestone\, signing to Sony Music. SNRK are blazing their own path\, weaving together a musical fabric of hard-hitting lyricism\, revealing stories about the struggles they and their people have encountered\, empowering protest songs for the front lines\, and a humor that keeps even the heaviest of topics something you can vibe to.
