SUMMARY:First Nations Storytelling Walk
DESCRIPTION:It’s Pride Week and that means celebration of all kinds\, especially our Indigenous Community!\nWe have invited Dave Smith has been sharing the stories and history from his Indigenous heritage with Saint John since 2021 with his business First Nations Storytelling.\nHe will be taking us on a 60 minute condensed version of his walk along harbour passage. This event requires walking\, however\, the path is very rollable and flat.\nWe will be meeting up at the Ihtoli-maqahamok – The Gathering Space stage bright and early at 8:15am for our walk which will take place between 8:30am – 9:30am.\nTHERE ARE ONLY 20 SPOTS! Please sign up in advance.\nBelow is an excerpt from Dave’s website:\n“Indigenous influence in the Saint John area is largely overlooked. Prior to the establishment of Canada’s oldest incorporated city\, a flourishing culture already existed.\nDiscover the local history of the Wolastoqi and Mi’kmaq peoples from a unique Indigenous point of view while meandering along the harbor and the Beautiful River – Wolastoq. Walk along a historical portage route and over archaeological sites and become acquainted with the timeless wisdom of our ancestors. Learn how stewardship of the earth should look in a modern world while respecting and celebrating the traditions of the past.\nPrior to the landing of European settlers in what is now called New Brunswick\, thriving cultures existed for thousands of years which lived in harmony with the land and the life that resided on it. Survival on this land depended on ingenuity and knowledge wrought from a sometimes harsh and unforgiving environment.\nPassed down through the generations were the spoken teachings that served as lessons to the younger generations to ensure their survival into the future. Despite today’s world of modern conveniences and industrialization\, respect and protection of the land is a way of life still followed today in every aboriginal community across Canada.”

SUMMARY:Documentary Double Feature
DESCRIPTION:Are you a documentary lover? Maybe you just want to learn some history about something you have never learned about before. Whatever your reason for joining us\, head to Haven Music Hall for a double dose of documentary deliciousness with\nDisclosureAccording to a study from GLAAD\, over 80% of Americans don’t personally know someone who’s transgender. That means most people learn about trans people from the ways they’re depicted in movies and TV.\nFrom executive producer Laverne Cox and director Sam Feder comes Disclosure\, a documentary that chronicles over 100 years of trans representation on screen\, from silent film to Dog Day Afternoon\, The 40-Year-Old Virgin to Pose.\nAND\nCircus of BooksFor over 35 years\, the gay porn shop Circus of Books gave Los Angeles’ LGBT+ community a space to socialize and celebrate themselves without judgment. Executive produced by Ryan Murphy\, Circus of Books is the debut documentary from Jewish artist Rachel Mason\, who finally asks the least radical people she knows- her parents- how they became American’s biggest distributors of gay porn.\nThis event is Free to all attendees. We will have a donation bucket at the door if you wish. But it is not required to attend.\nAccessibilityHaven Music Hall is a street-level small music venue without fixed seating. This show is combination standing and seating room only. Our entrance exterior is a 34″ wide door that has a small lip/step up from the street. Once inside\, our entrance vestibule has three steps up into the space with an interior entrance opening of 70″. We have two single-use washrooms with toilets. If you’d like more information about accessing our space please email abigail@havenmusichall.com.\nSafer Spaces Policy/Code of ConductHaven Music Hall (HMH) is committed to ensuring a safer show experience for musicians\, audiences\, staff\, and volunteers. SUMMARY:Derek Seguin is back at Punch Lines Comedy Club!
DESCRIPTION:Montreal-based Derek Seguin is one of the most sought after stand up comedians on the international circuit. This 2021 Juno Nominee has performed at the prestigious invitation-only Just For Laughs festival an impressive six times. He had filmed a gala set for HBO at the festival where he received a standing-ovation at the city’s 3\,500 seat Place des Arts. This led to an invitation to perform at that year’s Nasty Show.\nDerek’s has many other televised appearances and festivals under his belt and had appeared on CBC Radio’s\, “The Debaters” more than twenty-five times and recorded two episodes of CBC television’s\, “The Debaters”.\nWhether he’s ragging on politics or describing life with his children\, he brings us into his perspective without preaching any selfish point of view. His undeniable charm makes him simply fun to watch and listen to and is in large part why he is one of Canada’s most “in demand” comedians.
