SUMMARY:Michelle Petite at Punch Lines Comedy Club
DESCRIPTION:Michelle Petite has been in the Saint John stand up comedy scene for 6 years now. Before that\, she hosted many karaoke nights\, drag show events and DJ’ed all over town. This lead her to the stage! Since diving into comedy\, she has preformed at Punch Lines Comedy Club both in Saint John & with Punch Lines On Tour\, Yuk Yuk’s in Saint John as well as Halifax. She has headlined shows in PEI\, Fredericton\, Moncton\, with the O’Me Nerves comedy series (in support of Mental Health) and played sold out shows at the Phoenix Dinner Theatre. In the past year she has been featured in the Just For Laughs Showcase here in Saint John and won 3rd place at the Hubcap Comedy Festival Amateur Comedy Competition in Moncton. Michelle’s not for the faint of heart but her crazy stage antics and potty mouth persona will have you saying \n\n‘Did she just say that out loud?’ and leave you in stitches!

SUMMARY:'Dry' January Movie Series: Dune (1984) LASERDISC SCREENING AND COSTUME CONTEST!
DESCRIPTION:Warm up this January with Haven Music Hall’s January movie series featuring a curated list of dry\, desert-y\, dusty movies!! Free entry\, discounts on domestic cans of beer and our cafe menu\, and $2 popcorn! This is a VERY special screening of Dune because we will be showing it on laserdisc! Dress in your Arrakis best for the chance to win prizes! \n-Thursday Jan 30: Dune (1984) on LASERDISC!!-\nIn the year 10191\, a spice called melange is the most valuable substance known in the universe\, and its only source is the desert planet Arrakis. A royal decree awards Arrakis to Duke Leto Atreides and ousts his bitter enemies\, the Harkonnens. However\, when the Harkonnens violently seize back their fiefdom\, it is up to Paul (Kyle MacLachlan)\, Leto’s son\, to lead the Fremen\, the natives of Arrakis\, in a battle for control of the planet and its spice. Based on Frank Herbert’s epic novel. \n-What the heck is laserdisc actually?!-\nThe LaserDisc is a home video format and the first commercial optical disc storage medium\, initially licensed\, sold and marketed as DISCOVISION! The format was capable of offering higher-quality video and audio than its consumer rivals (VHS and Betamax videotape) but LaserDisc never managed to gain widespread use in North America. This Dune laserdisc is being lent to us for the evening from a private collection! \nBecause of this film’s longer run-time and the fact that you need to physically flip the laserdiscs\, this screening will include two short intermissions where you can refill your drink and nerd out about niche video formats! \nDoors 7:30pm/showtime 8pm\nJan 16: Tremors (1990)\nJan 23: The Mummy (1999)\nJan 30: Dune* (1984) \n*Dune (1984) will be a special screening on laserdisc! This screening will include two intermissions. \n—— \nSafer Spaces Policy/Code of Conduct\nHaven Music Hall (HMH) is committed to ensuring a safer show experience for musicians\, audiences\, staff\, and volunteers. If you see or experience any form of harassment or abuse please inform the bar staff on site. SUMMARY:“Winter Kept Us Warm” Film Screening❄️🎬
DESCRIPTION:Join Chroma NB and Canadian Writer\, Chris Dupuis\, for a rare film screening of the original version of “Winter” with a Q&A session with Dupuis to follow. Released in 1965\, Winter Kept Us Warm was a watershed moment in Canadian cinema. Filmed by a group of students on a shoestring budget\, Winter Kept Us Warm is Canada’s first film to depict a gay romance. Directed by David Sector\, a 22-year-old English major with no filmmaking experience\, the film was an unexpected smash\, scoring attention from big-name critics and a spot at the Cannes Film Festival. Sixty years after its release\, Winter offers a uniquely heart-wrenching portrait of queer attraction when being gay was still a crime in Canada. \nThis year will mark Winter’s 60th anniversary\, and author\, Chris Dupuis\, has published a detailed account of the film’s production. \nCopies of “Winter Kept Us Warm” will be available for purchase at the screening.

SUMMARY:Sarah Hagen: Goldberg Variations
DESCRIPTION:Sarah Hagen brings this classic programme featuring Bach’s formidable Goldberg Variations as part of the celebration of the recent release of her recording of the masterwork.\nCherished by many\, the Goldberg Variations are emblematic of keyboard virtuosity\, rich expression\, and hardcore classical interpretation. Sarah will offer a short introduction to this marvellous and intense piece before playing the full work. \n“Canadian pianist Sarah Hagen’s Goldberg Variations are dramatically different. Naysayers and refusniks beware: her approach combines unfettered joy\, wide awake with wonder\, requisite pedagogy\, and the ability to make the instrument bend to her will. The epic scope of the work is stated right out of the gate\, with an extensive exploration of the Aria that opens the way to the variable tempi\, harmonic adventure with unlimited changes in registration and emotion. Hagen’s performance combines vivid precision of touch with perfect articulation of line\, making her Goldberg Variations something to absolutely die for.” – Whole Note Magazine
