#30IN30 – DAY #10 – Paddington Station

I can’t count on my two hands the number of times Clare at Paddington Station has saved my butt.

“Clare – do you have an Olaf doll?”

Response: Yes – I’ll wrap it for you!

“Clare – what is the coolest thing for new moms?”

Response: I’ll get a few things out for when you arrive!

“Clare – I have 20 minutes and I need to buy a gift get my hair done and find a shirt to wear to a party”

Response: I’m on it.

The selection of toys, craft supplies, sticker books and clothing at Paddington Station is so wonderful. Something for every child from 0 to 12+.

Take a peek at some of my favourite things and enter the amazing giveaway below!

I never really understood the appeal of Peppa Pig until I sat down and watched an episode with Lena. Just kidding I still don’t get it.

These books are very cool – they’re made out of that material that is basically indestructible. It can get wet, dirty, ripped and torn and will not look any worse for wear. Clare has quite a few different titles for babies, toddlers and young readers!

The selection of Melissa & Doug art supplies is gigantic – paints, crayons, paper, stickers and markers. Anything you’ll need for craft time!

#30IN30 – DAY #7 – LORDON

I’ve been joking with Kate that LORDON is Silver Daisy’s older, cooler and more sophisticated sister.

The boutique opened in August at the corner of Canterbury Street and King Street – an ideal location to drool over their latest tops, dresses and accessories while on route to Second Cup (in one direction) and Picaroon’s (in the other).

I’m normally already aware of their latest wares – as I’m obsessed with watching their Instagram Stories and looking through their feed.

Within moments of stopping in last week – I had already picked out Christmas gifts for a few of my girlfriends. Blankets, scarves, soaps, candles, socks, jewelry and sweaters – look below, you’ll see what I mean.

The Round Towel – use it as a towel, throw blanket, yoga mat, shawl, or a rug!

(I’m partial to the rug option)

LORDON has started carrying Smith and Cult – eyes, lashes, cheeks and nail… Awesome packaging and a great price point.

At the LORDON opening in August – I bought a pair of Wolf Circus earrings. Money well spent – as they did not leave my ears for months.

Apologies in advance to all of the friends I’m going to offend over the next year. hehe

– – – – – – – – – –

I love everything. And now – so can you!

Kate and her team at LORDON have offered up – what I have dubbed – Christmas in a box. Honestly – you could wrap everything individually and have some very excited friends and co-workers. OR – you can sit on your new beautiful blanket scarf by the fire in your new socks painting your nails with a candle burning.

#30IN30 – DAY #6 – Backstreet Records

When I think about Backstreet Records – I can’t help but smile. Gordie Tufts has got to be the most genuine man in the City. Kind, interested, involved and extremely active in the local music community. (At 60 – Gordie goes to more late night rock shows that I do!)

Over the past couple years, I have really gotten into listening to music on vinyl.

In about… 2007… I remember my pal Chris looking through my iPod and scolding me for not having full albums.

“I can’t believe you only have one track by of Montreal!” he’d scoff, before unplugging my iPod and plugging in his.

Since then, I have really taken the intentional route when buying and listening to music. While I might enjoy the jams of an album single, I do love listening to an entire album front to back. I love having to go back into the living room and flipping an album.

Take a look below at some of my favourite records leading into the Christmas Season. I will always accept a record as a gift, and apologies in advance if I buy one for you. Well, , sorry not sorry.

The ALVVAYS album has been a favourite since … oh, 2014 or so. Super poppy. Polaris Prize shortlist. Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island artists.

#30IN30 – DAY #5 – the Butcher’s Daughter

A gift giving staple for me has always been a mug – (giving or receiving, for the record). I use a mug for everything – coffee, tea, wine, beer (I know) – so getting a new one to add to the collection is a welcome addition.

Butcher’s Daughter, located at the top of the City Market, has a wonderful collection of local, regional, maritime and Canadian artists. Mugs, yes, but also jewelry, cards, soaps, pottery, paintings, sketches and much more.

When I dropped by earlier this week I fell in LOVE with quite a few items. I have some gift giving ideas for you below – but feel free to drop by today (or any day)!

I was TAKEN with these mugs by artist Therese Bombardier. I kept going back and looking at them over and over again. There’s something about straight lines and gold leaf on black and white mugs. This is where I’d insert the emoji with hearts for eyes.

I love these tight top mugs from Monique Duclos Pottery. She also has pottery travel mugs that (1) fit in your cars cup holders and (2) have cork tops!

The SJ cityscape series from Maru Pottery is fantastic. I love the bright colours and carved scenes around the tops. Look closely – you’ll see something you recognize! #3Sisters

And now for everyone’s favourite part!

I know you saw something above that you did a double take at – I also know that when you visit them week to get your extra 5 entries, you’ll see something else you like.

The Butcher’s Daughter has offered a $50 gift certificate to help you with your local Holiday Shopping! Fantastic!

#30IN30 – DAY #4 – Heartbreak Boutique

Every time I drop in to Heartbreak Boutique – I’m reminded that none of my clothing is awesome. I don’t mean that my current wardrobe is bad, I mean that I do not have a single cat on any of my sweaters. None of my gym tanks tops say that I “WISH YOU WERE BEER”. My Christmas dress does not have a fox on it*

*I’m going to be able to help you with that one.

Heartbreak Boutique is my go to for fun birthday gifts, stocking stuffers, (eventually when I get some guts) Roller Derby gear and T-Shirts.

Take a peek below at the items that caught my eye when I popped in this week!

Loving the jewels on this crop top.

The selection of cards and goodies that Pam has is extensive – featuring local artists and those from away.

She has quite a selection of prints, tees and cards from Saint John artist turned Halifax resident, Geordan Moore.

Do you need a new pair of whimsical socks? Pam has you covered. Every time I wear my “Cats with Umbrellas” socks to the gym – they get many compliments. I’m sure the Dinosaur/Taco will get similar compliments.

I addition to Pam’s great Boutique on Germain Street – she also has a large heart.

This holiday season, Pam Wheaton and Kelly Morrell have started what they’re calling A Code Red Christmas.

After seeing a video online about the struggle to find feminine hygiene products as a homeless person who menstruates, Pam and Kelly began a group they now call Code Red.

The goal of their group is to create period packs and distribute them monthly to locations where they can be picked up by those who cannot afford to purchase these “luxuries” each month.

This holiday season, Heartbreak Boutique will serve as a drop off location for donations of pads, tampons and sanitary wipes. The team will assemble the items into packs and will distribute to various locations throughout the city.

Fantastic. Thank you girls for bringing attention to this.

Pam has offered up any Holiday Dress in store as a giveaway diring #30in30!

#30IN30 – DAY #3 – Heroes’ Beacon

I might be the last person to get the memo re: board games – but I’m there. Memo received.

I’ve recently been introduced to the very fun, challenging and co-operative world of gaming.

I was eased in with a simple 2 player tile game called Patchwork. Amy was able to explain this game to me while we played. I was then introduced to a hilarious drawing game called Looney Quest. In a nutshell, you draw blindly on a clear piece of plastic and cross your fingers that when you place it on the game piece – you didn’t draw on top of a bomb. Next came a quick and easy card game called Colorfox. I LOVED this game – because there is a winner. And I won.

I was then thrown to the deep end with a “cooperative game of terror and adventure” called Eldritch Horror. My pal Matt actually said the following to me – “we’ll need a bowl for the monsters”. Uuuhhh… OK.

Since starting to play – I’m in love. I was so excited when Heroes’ Beacon invited me to drop by and check out their shop on Charlotte Street. I was even more excited when they told me about their giveaway… Can I enter this one?

I asked Chris and Steve to suggest games that might appeal to a first or early “gamer” and this is what they came up with (with a few choice sentences about each from Boardgame Geek).

Carcassonne is a tile-placement game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads …

Munchkin – Go down in the dungeon. Kill everything you meet. Back-stab your friends and steal their stuff. Grab the treasure and run.

7 Wonders Duel – Over three ages players acquire cards that provide resources or advance their military or scientific development in order to develop a civilization and complete wonders.

In Ghost Blitz, five wooden items sit on the table waiting to be caught: a white ghost, a green bottle, a cute grey mouse, a blue book, and a comfortable red chair. Each card in the deck shows pictures of two objects, with one or both objects colored the wrong way. With all players playing at the same time, someone reveals a card, then players grab for the “right” object – but which object is right?

One Night Ultimate Werewolf is a fast game for 3-10 players in which everyone gets a role: One of the Werewolves, a Troublemaker, the helpful Seer, or one of a dozen different characters, each with a special ability. In the course of a single morning, your village will decide who is a werewolf….

**I have played this game a number of times over the past month or so and it’s HILARIOUS. I would recommend it to anyone heading to a friends house over the holidays that needs a hostess gift!

Heroes’ Beacon has a HUGE selection of games available for purchase. I highly recommend you drop by to check them out. The guys have n problem talking your ear off about games to play for different occasions or ways to add to games you already play… (I had no idea so many expansion packs exist!)

I addition to board games, Heroes’ Beacon has a large collection of graphic novels and comics!

I was also extremely pumped while browsing their gift-ware section – socks (ankle, short and tall), umbrellas, mugs, cups and action figures!

The giveaway that Heroes’ Beacon has offered is FUN. A Family Game night complete with Ticket to Ride, snacks and a fun card game!

#30in30 – Day #2 – ECMAs

The Saint John City streets will come alive from April 26th to 30th, 2017, when Saint John hosts Atlantic Canada’s biggest celebration of music – The East Coast Music Awards.

This is a good lead up post for the next couple of days – when I’ll feature my favourite record shop in the City, Backstreet Records.

Tickets, wristbands and weekend passes are on sale now for the 2017 event. (Click here for more information)

A wristband or pass is the best – and most affordable – way to experience the ECMAs. Over 500 musicians will play at over 50 events and venues in five days. Having a wristband or a pass will allow you to hop from venue to venue to take in as much live music as possible.

I’ve always wanted to go to a live music award show – bands playing between prizes, all of my favourite musicians lined up and down the aisles waiting to hear if their name is called. My hope is that somehow I can swing a +1 to sit with Wintersleep – think that’s doable? 🙂

Lisa Gribbons, the ECMA Local Organizing Committee Co-Chair, has provided an AMAZING prize for #30in30 – 2 tickets to the ECMA Songwriter’s Tour at the Imperial Theatre on February 15 as well as some sweet SWAG – including an ECMA fleece and some CDs!

#30in30 – Day #1 – Lolë

Christmas is COMING. The Santa Clause Parade Saturday night, the frost on my windshield this morning and the eggnog latte in my hands has me in the Christmas spirit. I’m so thrilled to be sharing gift ideas from Uptown Saint John shops and businesses – thanks for following along! You will not be disappointed.

I visited Lolë last week* – located on the 2nd floor of Brunswick Square.

*the last week part isn’t necessary, they are my go-to for workout wear, headbands and outerwear.

I went with #30in30 in mind and came out with a new coffee mug and a pair of gym pants.

Take a peek below at the beautiful pieces to add to your winter wardrobe, your gym routine or your every day!

I have been trying to reconcile my love of outerwear with my … lack of love … for colder weather. The scarves, hats, jackets and mittens available at Lolë are beautiful.

The cross stitch print of this top had me – I was taken.

I am obsessed with this hoodie. I love the leatherette details on the pouch and the almost-cowl-like neckline.

Hint – someone get this for me for Christmas.

When browsing the shop – I couldn’t help but see my entire winter wardrobe in front of me. The sweaters, tops and pants are perfect for Saturday errands (and in some cases) Monday work meetings. Plus – I can’t handle how much I love the colour palette this Fall.

Since discovering the manduka headbands, I think I’ve purchased one in every colour. Not only do they stay put on my head during burpees, weights, stretching and running (I wore one during my Marathon by the Sea 10 k!), but they’re $5! What a steal.

Lolë carries quite a bit of the manduka line – foam blocks, yoga mats (cloth and foam) as well as various straps and yoga gear.

The girls at Lolë have a great giveaway in store for you – the LILY tote, a GLOW mat and a S’Well bottle in Birchwood!
