Our Uptown Clean Crew Is Hard At Work!

One of the primary functions of the Business Improvement Association is to provide additional maintenance and sidewalk cleaning services within the BIA.  This summer we have kicked off by partnering with the City of Saint John in hiring two Uptown Clean Crew employees; Benjamin Bridges and Rob Hanson.

The Clean Crew reports into our USJI office daily, then they set out with all of the necessary tools required for cleaning our uptown sidewalks.  Specifically, Ben and Rob concentrate on sweeping, weeding, tree-grate cleaning and poster removal.  An added bonus is that these two gents are friendly and love uptown – always with a kind smile and are more than happy to assist anyone who may need directions, etc.

Welcome to our Uptown Clean Crew – Ben and Rob!  If you see them out and about on our streets, be sure to give them a high-five! #lovelifeuptown

If you notice an area of the uptown that may require some special attention for cleanup, please notify us at our office at 633.9797.
Together we can help make uptown more attractive and embrace our community pride together!

New Banners Add An Artistic Element to Union Street

Union Street is one of the most unique, free spirited streets uptown with a very eclectic personality. Now, gracing this street, as well as Coburg Street, are bright, beautiful banners, created with images from talented local artists. This installation, presented by the Business Improvement Association – Uptown Saint John Inc. will compliment the streetscape in this area, especially enjoyable for pedestrian traffic.  Banners will stay up until October this year, and we hope to re-install for next summer as well.

Big thanks and appreciation goes out to Saint John Energy for their assistance in the logistics around this project, and the City of Saint John for their gracious cooperation.

We are proud to show off the artists who contributed to this project. Below see who they are, and their pieces.

We encourage you to look for these banners the next time you are in the area. Thank you to all of the artists adding to the pulse of this neck of the woods uptown.  #lovelifeuptown

Welcome to BunkHaus Hostel

This month saw the opening of Saint John’s newest place to stay – BunkHaus Hostel. Located on sunny Water Street, the boutique hostel features clean, Scandinavian-inspired common spaces and several cozy room options. Twelve-foot ceilings, musical instruments and enlarged historic photographs of Saint John make the hostel’s communal areas welcoming and fun, with everything you need to feel right at home. Ingrid Woodhouse dreamt up BunkHaus after recognizing a lack of affordable accommodations in Saint John (prices at the hostel range from $59-$99/night), and we’re so glad to welcome her to the neighbourhood!
