Welcome Uptown to Vegolution – Where Veggie Has Never Tasted Better!

We have all eagerly anticipated the opening of our newest restaurant uptown –  Vegolution.  Well, they are now open and they have not disappointed. With the recent appreciation for Vegan and Vegetarian foods, Saint John is more than ready for this slant on delicious.  Owners Keith and Sarah Broome and their energetic, enthusiastic team will expand your horizons and satisfy your tastebuds at their unique uptown restaurant.

Formerly ‘Reggies,’ Vegolution is located at 26 Germain Street and you will note hints of the old amid the new, comfortable decor. Notice the classic map in the entryway, reminiscent of Reggies days, with pushpins marking their customers homes. As well, note the antique glass bottle collection, one with century old curry still in it. And, subtle and supercool – V on the wall.

Vegolution offers vegetarian and vegan foods with gluten free options. One can eat in or take out, and if you are really in a rush – a freshly stocked takeaway fridge is open 9-close for quick grabs of tasty options. If you are a Kombucha fan, bring your growler for a fillup of local ‘Kissing Rocks’ product.

Stop in and share the passion for good, healthy food.

A Look Back at Inside Uptown 2018

On June 9th, event goers enjoyed a rare look into various uptown residential spaces while attending our popular ‘Inside Uptown’ residential tour.  Eight locations were displayed as owners and hosts graciously shared how they have decorated and enjoy their urban home.  Each had their own history, design and unique features – a wonderful display of various styles integrating personal taste into the brick and mortar of our historic buildings.  After the event, a reception took place at the Union Club with fine music, appetizers and drinks, compliments of our event sponsors; YIP Cider, Moosehead Breweries and Arterra Wines.  We’d also like to thank our media sponsor, 97.3 The Wave and Country 94 for the extra attention before and during Inside Uptown 2018.

Enjoy a few photos from this fantastic day uptown:

Uptown Mug #80 . Mishelle Carson-Roy

She works in a colorful store, she wears colorful clothes, and ‘she’s a rainbow’ colorful personality.  Mishelle manages Freak Lunchbox on King Street, and she certainly adds a spark to our community.  Always with a huge smile and full of fun, we are lucky to have her as one of our uptown people, and show her off whenever we can.  She is also very talented with the camera – if you are on Instagram, look her up and enjoy life through her eyes.  And, when you’re feeling like some sugar, stop by Freak Lunchbox to pick from a plethora of yummy treats and say hi when you’re there!

Let’s get to know Mishelle!

Where were you born/Where are you from?

I was born in Saint John and have lived in both Gingerbread Styled Houses and The Jellybean building..I’m just naturally drawn to old architecture and sweets!  I moved to Halifax for college but returned in 2010 to have my son. The saddest part of leaving Halifax was leaving behind my job at Freak Lunchbox, You could imagine my excitement having our Saint John location follow me home a few months after my return.

How long have you been a part of the uptown scene?

I’ve been working uptown since 2011 and I’ve loved every minute of it. There’s just something about our people here, so many of our regular customers have become friends over the years!

What is your favorite season, and why?

I’m a sucker for our Fall Season. There’s something about watching all of the leaves change colour that just makes you feel warm and cozy.

Any pets?

I have a 20Lb Cat at home named Kevin, and a house trained Lop Rabbit named Waffles.

What is your Uptown Insider Tip?

My biggest insider tip is to just take yourself on a walk through the streets of uptown and look up. It’s amazing how many tiny details this city has to offer and we miss out on so much. Take the time and see for yourself!
