Denise is well known uptown and, like her building at One Princess Street, is a pillar in our community. Always involved in various functions and fundraisers, she is a living example of being ‘Strong & Free,’ her company brand and lifestyle mantra, if you will.
Let’s get to know Denise..
Where were you born/Where are you from?
Saint John is my hometown, I worked for awhile in Montreal and California and came home to raise a family. There is no place like home.
How long have you been a part of the uptown scene?
I fell in love with One Princess and watched it for three years until it became mine in Dec 2013. It was the perfect building to become the Strong & Free Headquarters and to be the showcase for Strong & Free products along with the consignment of other lines from local entrepreneurs. Converting the second and third floors to AirBnB apartments has turned the building into a home based business and allowed me to ramp down from a full time IT job to part time consulting. Life is good!
Name one or two people who you look to for inspiration?
My parents inspired me to work hard and believe that you can be anything you wish to be … I guess that means I am stubborn!
What is your favorite season, and why?
Summer, summer and more summer. I am light activated I love the sun, swimming and bonfires with guitars on warm starry nights.
What is your ultimate favorite snack food?
Give me all your chocolate and nobody gets hurt!
Coffee, tea, or other?
Coffee starts my motor in the morning, there is no better way to start the day for us than a hot cup of Java on the balcony overlooking the SJ Harbour. On Saturdays and Sundays we add a magazine to the mix.
We have two mini-poodles; Buddy who thinks you can’t see him if he’s not looking at you and Sugar who thinks she is a person and Buddy is a great chew toy.
Most guilty pleasure?
I love to jump in the Strong & Free RV, just get on the road and see where it takes us. I do the driving Patricia makes the snacks and sandwiches while snapchatting, instagramming and twittering our our way around Canada!
I am told that I can be too serious… Seriously???
Male – Paul McCartney I am a huge Beatle fan
Female – Stevie Nicks I love her and Fleetwood Mac
What is your Uptown Insider Tip?
When I moved Uptown I had fun finding all kinds of ways to get from one place to another in the pedways and passages. I love taking along my bag and getting all the goodies I need without ever getting in a car. It’s become a bit of a game kind of like Uptown Pokemon Go gets groceries!
I am sincerely grateful for all those who support Strong & Free, it has become my life’s passion and I truly enjoy sharing it with Canadians near and far as we set an example for the world about integrity and the importance of human rights. 2017 is Canada’s 150, I can’t wait to be part of the celebration of this great country!
