Uptown Mugs #47 . Roy Billingsley

Roy Billingsley?is a bit of a Saint John legend and also is a man who wears many hats. ?Owner of Steamers Lobster Company?on Water Street, he is kept busy pumping out the lobsters and seafood in the summer and is it's now home to one of the most epic uptown patios overlooking the bay. Roy also is a bit of a character, and is the talented script writer (and actor) for the various theatrical productions put on by Water Street Dinner Theatre. ?With a natural and unique sense of humour, the shows are typically hysterically funny, though not necessarily suited for those with a discriminating comedic aptitude.

The patio is set to open early May, and a new show, “Bad Medicine” opens April 1st.

Let's have a chat with Roy…

Where were you born/Where are you from?

I was born at the old General Hospital. ?I'm from Saint John proper. ?Over the last 40 years I've lived in the North End, South End , East Side, West Side, Kennebecasis Valley, Grand Bay Westfield, and Kingston Peninsula

How long have you been part of the uptown scene?

I've been a purveyor of Beer, wine and spirits in uptown Saint John since 2000.

Who do you look to for inspiration? (…by chance, they could be your pets, as well)

My two Labrador Retrievers, Benny & Soul.

Favourite Musician?

My Favourite Musicians have to be the Water Street Dinner Theatre Band. I've seen these folks perform literally thousands of times, yet I am still in awe every time they play.

What is your Uptown Insider Tip?

The 10oz strip loin, char crust one side from Church St. Steakhouse is a staple in my diet.

I'd recommend it anyone with a meat tooth.?
