Uptown Saint John is excited to welcome Bagel Artist as a new member of the Uptown Saint John BIA! Since opening its second location in the Saint John City Market this June, Bagel Artist has been serving up fresh bagels, sandwiches, and coffee in the heart of Uptown.
Owner Angeli Barbosa moved to Saint John from Brazil with her family three years ago. Her first job in the city was at Bagel Artist, where she spent a year getting to know the business, the recipes, and the customers who visited every day. She saw how much people loved it and wanted to help it continue to grow. In late 2024, she became the new owner, and this summer she expanded the business by opening a second location inside the Saint John City Market.
While you’ll find Bagel Artist in the City Market, everything starts each morning at their Rothesay Avenue bakery. Fresh bagels and house-made cream cheese are prepared there daily before being brought to the market, with 200 to 250 fresh bagels made just for the Uptown location every day. Their bagels and cream cheese are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, and the menu includes classic favourites: plain, everything, sesame, cheese, cheese onion, and poppy seed, as well as rotating specialty flavours like blueberry and garlic.
Whether you’re stopping in for breakfast, lunch, or a coffee break, you’ll find plenty to choose from. Enjoy espresso drinks, lattes, chai, tea, cold brew, and sandwiches with vegetarian, vegan, poultry, egg, beef, pork, and smoked salmon options. You can also take home fresh or frozen bagels by the half dozen or dozen, along with popular house-made cream cheese flavours like rosemary garlic and sun-dried tomato.
For Angeli, opening in the City Market is another step in growing a business she believes in. She says one of the things she loves most about Saint John is the welcoming community and the kindness she’s experienced since moving here.
