#30IN30 – DAY #30 – MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM BARB

Thank you so much for following along on my Christmas Shopping adventures in Uptown Saint John.

As you know – the whole reason I used to do this (and asked Uptown Saint John if I could do it again) was to promote shopping in our Uptown core. I started #30in30 in 2011. The purpose of the giveaways wasn’t for free stuff (although that was a huge bonus), it was to draw attention to the quality items available for purchase a short drive from our homes.

Brand names, beautiful art, curated items – all from local business owners.

It’s great, right?

With Christmas Eve TOMORROW (AAHHHH!!), I wanted to share with your my very favourite way to chill out during this hectic month.

Picaroons

For the fifth year, Picaroons Traditional Ales has brought back the 12 Beers of Christmas. They started December 12th and for 12 days, Picaroons has tapped a 360 litre batch of a one-time only brew.

It used to be that only Fredericton residents would be in luck – but since Picaroons opened in the car-park on Canterbury Street, Saint Johners don’t need to make the snowy drive up Route 7 for their 1.89 L growler.

Long story short – your next beer will be on me. It won’t be a Christmas Brew – but I wanted to remind you of you last chance to fill up – TODAY – on the 12 Beers of Christmas.

Enter below for a a gift certificate for a Growler and a fill-up** – my absolute favourite way to chill.

See you next year!

**The Fine Print – you must be 19 years or older and live in the City. This giveaway isn’t sponsored by Picaroons

#30IN30 – DAY #29 – Element5

I can not even believe that Christmas is THIS WEEKEND.

If you’re like me – you might be getting a little stressed … with respect to your holiday preparations… but don’t fret.

(whoops – definitely spent all month buying art and things for myself while visiting #30in30 shops and stores)

Element5 offers an amazing menu of spa services ranging from facials to hair services to makeup application to wraps and scrubs.

I’ve already made my post-Christmas and pre-New Years appointment for a manicure… (and I’m considering adding massage!).

Take a peek at the menu of services offered and let me know in the comments what you’re craving for your post-Christmas relaxation! (and what chakra you might need right about now).

– – – – – – – – – – – – – –

I have been obsessed with this product since Kathryn told me about it…

chakra1 – grounded, chakra2 – nourished, chakra3 – intention, chakra4 – harmony, chakra5 – expressive, chakra6 – insight, chakra7 – wisdom

Today I think I might need a session with intention … and insight.

In the meantime, Element5 has offered an amazing giveaway – a 60 minute massage with Andrea!

#30IN30 – DAY #28 – Yuk Yuks

Over the past two years, Comedy in Saint John has become a staple in our extracurricular activities.

What are you doing this weekend? Probably heading out to a Shane Ogden event, a Mark Burnett event, an Improv show at the theatre company, No Jokes Barred with Jon forward … or any other gig that James Mullinger might be billed to.

Steven Barnes announced earlier this year that Yuk Yuks would be coming to Saint John and opening in the Bustin’s Building off Grannan Lane. Cue the excitement.

The 225 seat venue is opening in the basement level of the Bustin’s Building. It will be accessible off of Grannan Lane and – get this – from both Italian by Night and Five & Dime.

Opening weekend has been announced as January 19th to 21st with non other than headliner James Mullinger!

Tickets are available here and are selling fast!

Of course – Steve has offered two tickets* to the show opening weekend for #30in30 followers. Seems like a sweet VIP experience to me!

#30IN30 – DAY #27 – the CORN CRIB

The Corn Crib has been around in the Saint John area since the fall of 2012. They’re located at the top of King Street and serve the community with food, health, body care and nutritional products!

They serve me, specifically, with chocolate covered almonds.

Amy Stewart dropped by yesterday to snap some photos of the items up for grabs for Christmas stockings and under the tree. Take a peek!

– – – – – – – – – – – –

When I was chatting with Amy last night about the items at the Corn Crib – she was raving about these beautiful baskets!

They are all handmade – and come with a label on them to give you a little more information about the artist.

– – – – – – – – – – – –

– – – – – – – – – – – –

In addition to items you might pick up for Christmas presents or stocking stuffers – the Corn Crib also has a tidy little grocery section with a few packaged items, spices, bulk products and TREATS.

A few things I want to note in this post:

Did you know that you can see movies at the Imperial Theatre?

The monthly retro film series starts January 2017 off with a bang – DIE HARD (everyone’s favourite Christmas Movies) will be playing for only $10. You can grab some popcorn and enjoy the film in the beautiful theatre.

#30IN30 – DAY #24 – BAUBLES

Visiting Sandy, Joy and her team at Baubles last week was such a treat. I went in for three reasons –

1. I wanted to snap some photographs for #30in30
2. I hate a hot date with my CrossFit ladies and needed a pair of pantyhose; and
3. I needed my annual hookup of the most amazing shortbread cookies I’ve ever had.

As always – I was thoroughly impressed with the selection of jewelry (earrings – necklaces – rings galore) as well as scarves, gloves, mittens, hats and clothing for women.

Take a peek of the photographs below and stop in to finish up your Christmas shopping!

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

The Team at Baubles has offered a $50 gift certificate to help you finish up your Christmas shopping! EXCITING!

I can think of a dozen pair of earrings, a blanket scarf or two and a purse I’d like to put that toward!

#30IN30 – DAY #23 – PERFUMES PLUS

In 2014 I posted that the customer service at Perfumes Plus was the reason I would be a customer for life – 2 full years later and Laura and the rest of the team on the 1st level of Brunswick Square continue to be my go to for eyebrows, makeup and manicures. Wait, I mean, my eye brows are naturally this cute. 🙂

In addition to the customer service, I’ll continue to return because of the brands that they carry, the price of their services and the friendliness of their staff.

Perfumes Plus is the only location locally where you can get Chanel products. They have a full roster of items available… cleanser, make-up, perfumes, nail polish and moisturizers.

Here are a few gift ideas, sure to impress the lady (or man!) in your life this Holiday Season:

These brushes are vegan – and according to Laura – work wonderfully.

*note to men who might date me – wear this scent.*

TBH, you could wear any of these scents and I’d be in.

– – – – – – – – – – –

I’ve posted about this before on my personal blog – but the Chanel Moisturizer is the best way to spend $50. (I think it’s actually a little less than that).

I was raving about it in 2012, and in 2016 I’m still a loyal user. I’m using the same cleanser that I purchased in the fall of 2015. I do have a backup though, mine should run our by January.

Seriously. It’s my favourite.

– – – – – – – – – – –

I’ve nicknamed today’s giveaway the Barb Special … the team at Perfumes Plus has offered a gift certificate to get your nails done as well as your makeup.

This is actually a thing I order and pay for OFTEN. Nothing makes me feel more confident that Laura’s smooth and straight eye liner and a set of red nails.

Enter below! And make sure to visit this week to snap a photo. Pick up your favourite OPI or Chanel polish and tag us on Instagram.

As a women who likes to look good (I assume you are also one of these) – or, at the very least – you know a girl that likes to look good, you’re familiar with Je Suis Prest.

Saint John is in such an amazing spot right now with respect to clothing options. I love that, while on the hunt for a perfect black dress, I was able to try on dozen of options within a 4 block radius.

Je Suis Prest is located on the 2nd floor of Brunswick Square and caters to ladies for all possible occasions – work, play, parties and casual events.

The gift ideas are plentiful at JSP, take a peek!

The fact that a retailer is carrying Matt & Nat again, was music to my ears. I LOVE this brand. Clean. Classic. Vegan.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

See something you like? (You will – I promise)

Write it down in Santa’s book and the Elves from JSP will give your Secret Santa a call on your behalf.

It’s getting colder (believe me – none of us will every forget “Feels like -43 Degrees” from last Friday.)
