Anne McShane is one of the most familiar faces in uptown Saint John. The owner of the Germain Street fixture – “The Feel Good Store”, Anne embodies the positive attitude and spirit of cooperation that makes our city centre such a wonderful place. Recently in the news after a car accidentally drove into her storefront, Anne continues to keep smiling & working to make uptown even cooler!?
Let's learn a bit more about Anne…
Where were you born?
I grew up in Sussex and moved to Saint John 15 years ago or more. Technically, I guess I was born in Saint John. I was adopted and my mom loves to tell the story that she got me at the City Market. (The adoption agency was located above the City Market at that time)
How long have you been a part of the uptown scene?
Those same 15 years. My first job in Saint John was in uptown Saint John and when I decided to open the store, I couldn?t imagine it anywhere else.
What is your ultimate favorite snack food?
Right now it?s those addictive olives from Pete?s Frootique in the City Market. Have you tried those things? Soooo good. I?m buying one of the giant tins next time.
Coffee, tea, or other?
Ha ha Tea of course! Although I?ve also been known to start the day with a piece of chocolate melted into a Java moose coffee.
Singing while I talk. In no particular tune. All the time. I can?t stop myself. Sometimes people sing back tho. That makes it worth it.
What is your Uptown Insider Tip?
There are so many! The view from Tin Can beach, the beautiful hand woven scarves at Good Fibrations, and my husband and I love to do the uptown mollusk run: fresh oysters from Billy?s Seafood, periwinkles from the Saint John Ale House, mussels from Grannan?s and prosciutto wrapped scallops from Britt?s Pub.
