King's Square Bandstand Now Re-Opened

Earlier today, King Square hosted the re-opening celebration of the King Edward VII Memorial Bandstand. As you may have noticed, the Century-old structure has been under construction undergoing a complete refurbishment for the past couple of months, and had remained hidden beneath a white tarp that entire time.

That all changed at noon today, when the tarp was removed to reveal a completely revitalized bandstand. Fear not, Saint John historians, the structure has retained it?s original look, though very much improved. The work included cleaning and restoring? the copper roof, installing a rolling ladder for access to the second level, electrical upgrades, new supports for the second level, refurbishing the fountain, and a new paint job.?

John Irving and Dr. Richard Currie were revealed to have provided the donations totaling in over 100,00$ for the restoration.?

The celebration included a musical performance on the second floor balcony by the? Saint Mary?s Band, and speeches from Mayor Mel Norton, former Mayor Norm McFarlane, and donators John Irving and Dr. Richard Currie.?

And now that the bandstand is ready, Uptown Saint John will be bringing you ?Summer in The Square? live music every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with the rain location being the city market.
