Uptown Poutinerie Challenge was a delicious success!

Today, hundreds gathered at Market Square to dig into some poutine!? As part of the Canada Day week-long celebrations, and in celebration of St. Jean Baptiste Day, several uptown restaurants and their creative chefs treated us to some very unique poutine tastes.? Though a difficult task, a panel of three judges (Shirley McAlary, Mike Hawkins, and Craig Pinhey) ignited their discriminating tastes and determined a winner and two runners-up.? The dishes were judged on taste, showmanship/presentation, and creativity.? Grannan's Restaurant walked away champ, with Britt's Pub & Eatery and The York Bistro + Pub, runners up.

Participants included:
Decimal 81
Saint John Ale House
Grannan's Seafood Restaurant
Britt's Pub & Eatery
the YORK bistro + pub
Smoking Pig BBQ

Of course, the crowd had opportunity to sample these creations, and there were some interesting fusions…such as lobster, pulled pork, and turkey and cranberry.

Below are some photos from the event.? Thanks to all of the participants, and to the public who came out to the feast of poutine!

Winner of the Poutinerie Challenge 2013, Chef Scott Reid (Grannan's).? Runners up, Sebastian Matheja (York Bistro + Pub), and Jim Hayes (Britt's Pub & Eatery).
