Bay of Fundy – New7Wonders of Nature campaign overview

How did the Bay of Fundy qualify to become one of the New7Wonders of Nature finalists? Because it has:
The highest tides in the world
A diverse marine ecology
Home to 12 species of whales
Unique culture and history
Home to the worlds most complete fossil record from the Coal Age, the oldest reptiles, and Canadas oldest dinosaurs
Four UNESCO designations, and
One of the worlds best sites for green tidal energy.

The New7Wonders of Nature campaign has been going on for a while. When does it end?
The Bay of Fundy has progressed through various campaign phases since 2008 when the campaign started with more than 440 international sites in over 220 countries
There are now 28 global finalists
The Bay of Fundy is the only Canadian finalist in the campaign
The only other finalist in North America is the Grand Canyon
Over 1 billion votes are expected by the time the New7Wonders of Nature are declared on 11.11.11

What is being done to get people to vote for the Bay of Fundy in the New7Wonders of Nature campaign?
Extensive social media campaign beginning in February 2011
Special event participation, such as promotions at the upcoming Canada Games
Public relations & media activities
Advertising in the official tourism guides of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick
Promotion at tourism consumer shows, during media interviews and meetings
Text messaging voting option: text Fundy 77077 ($0.25 per vote)
Celebrity endorsements
By partnering with Australia, we are encouraging Canadians and Australians to include each other in their choice of 7. Australia has two competing finalists, the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru (Ayers Rock).

What can I do to encourage voting for the Bay of Fundy?

To text vote, enter the short code phone number 77077 into your mobile phone, choose the texting option on your phone, text the word FUNDY in English or BAIE in French to that number. The cost is $.025 per text vote, which will be billed to your phone bill. A small fee per text is required to keep someone from spamming votes by the thousands for one candidate. Each text counts as one vote for Bay of Fundy. Text voting works on all Canadian mobile phones.
