a little about Jen Jewett
I was born in Saint John and grew up on Darlings Island. I started playing guitar in High School when my dad accidentally won two guitars on ebay. He gave me the extra one, and I started teaching myself right away. I didnt start singing in front of people until well into my second year of university. I lived in a very musical, creative environment and had many great friends who helped coax me out of my shell. I havent had any formal training, but have been surrounded by so many great musicians who have influenced me and taught me so much along the way. University is also where I unearthed my love for photography, which is what I hope to end up doing full time some day. I have worked at Java Moose for a little over a year now. I get to make delicious coffee, and hang out with friends all day its a pretty great deal!
Do you ever get stage fright?
“I've been playing music in front of people for quite a few years now, so stage fright isnt often something that I have to worry about. But every once in a while it creeps up on me if Im playing a new venue or am not 100% sure of the structure that night. I like to always know whats going on I get nervous otherwise.”
Where is the most interesting place youve ever been?
“Definitely Pemba, Mozambique, in South-eastern Africa. I volunteered at an orphanage there a couple years ago, and it completely captured my heart. The culture, the rhythm, the kids There is absolutely no place like it.”
Do you have any pets?
“I have a guinea pig named Prince Rudiger Wellington III (or Rudy for short).”
What do you like to eat for breakfast?
“A Java Moose breakfast sandwich. Yumm.”
Who is your favourite musician?
“Ingrid Michaelson. I want to BE her when I grown up and as you read this I am probably in Portland, Maine, having all my dreams come true, watching her in concert!!”
Spring? Summer? Winter? Fall?
“Its definitely a toss up between summer and fall. I LOVE being warm, and being able to lay out in the park and read a book. But I also love the smell, and the colours of fall.”
Do you have a nickname?
“My name seems to be pretty conducive to nicknames – I have probably had every one in the book. Id name some but then everyone would call me them. Haha.”
What is your favourite hangout uptown?
“In the summer, definitely dock just off the boardwalk. Sitting down where they tie up the boats, and soaking in some sun. When Im not there you can probably find me at Java Moose I loved hanging out there before I worked there, and still love it now.”
so…a flavourful girl…definately check out her music!
